Primary Eyecare Services offers a range of specialist NHS eye care services, delivered by accredited optometrists, with appointments at locations and times convenient for you. Service availability is dependent on which services each NHS region has commissioned in their local area.

Urgent eyecare service

Community Urgent Eyecare Service

The Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) provides urgent assessment, treatment or referral for sudden onset eye problems such as flashes, floaters, vision loss or minor eye injuries.

MECS eye

Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS)

The Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) provides assessment and treatment for people with recently occurring minor eye problems. It is an NHS service provided by accredited optometrists (also commonly called opticians).

Learning disability eye test

The Easy Eye Care Learning Disability Service

The Easy Eye Care service is for adults and children with moderate to severe learning disabilities who need more time and/or extra support when having an eye health check and sight examination.

Cataract slit lamp

Pre- and Post-operative Cataract Services

This service is for people who are considering having surgery to remove cataracts, and people who have had cataract surgery, to provide post-operative care.
