Integrated Children’s Service (ICS)

Overview

This service allows collaboration between primary care opticians (also know as optometrists) and hospital eye services to allow early intervention and management of poor vision for children.

Integrated Children’s Service

The service provides an alternative service for children who are found to have poor vision and have been referred to hospital but are considered suitable for care in your local opticians.

Service Information

Accreditation
WOPEC Paediatric (each area may have its own accreditation requirements). Safeguarding Children Level 2. Enhanced DBS.

Referrals into the Service
Patients are identified by HES to require optometric intervention refraction or other testing suitable for primary care. Patients are entered onto the hospital platform of the ICS module and sent out to the participating practice of choice.

Clinical details are sent via OPERA to the optical practice with a request for the additional tests required.

Optical practice completes assessment using the ICS module on OPERA and results are generated back to the HES. HES is able to track the pathway of the patient at all times through the OPERA IT system.

Outcome Reports
All outcomes are processed with OPERA. The HES are able to view the patient pathway at all times via the hospital IT portal.
