Overall, hundreds of national health and human rights awareness days, weeks and months take place in the UK every year. Many are recognised globally. All are associated with a range of publicity and networking activities fundraising events.

Three such national health and social justice campaigns are running consecutively over the next three weeks right through until the end of May:

Primary Eyecare is pleased and proud to voice our support for all three of these campaigns and will be actively promoting them on our social media platforms and across other communications channels. We will also be supporting many more during the course of the rest of the year and will be issuing regular updates on our involvement.

Aiming to empower people to take control of different aspects of their health and human rights, and to take informed decisions about their wellbeing, these high profile public information drives set out to improve welfare and wellbeing by providing people with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves.

‘The success of health awareness week lies in their ability to engage individuals and communities in meaningful conversations about health and wellbeing, and to encourage positive behaviour change’

The World Health Organisation (WHO), 2021.

‘Human rights awareness weeks provide a crucial opportunity for us to reflect on the importance of human rights and to recommit ourselves to protecting and promoting them.’

Michelle Bachelet, United Nationals High Commissioner for Human Rights, 2021.

Speaking about the importance of public awareness campaigns, Primary Eyecare’s Chief Executive, Dharmesh Patel, commented:

‘We are proud to support these health and human rights awareness weeks. It is only through continued education and advocacy that we can help build a more equitable and fairer world, where everyone has the opportunity to live their healthiest and most fulfilling life.’
